Most security tools stop at alerting. They detect. They correlate. They score. And then they create a ticket and wait for a human to take action.
The problem with stopping at alerting is that the threat doesn't wait. A ransomware payload that starts encrypting at 14:32 does not pause while your analyst works through their queue. An insider threat walking out with a USB drive doesn't stop when the SIEM generates a notification.
D2R's Resolution layer was built on a different premise: the goal is containment, not documentation.
Parallel Orchestration
When a high-confidence event clears the Decision layer and triggers a Resolution playbook, D2R executes response actions in parallel — not sequentially. A single containment event might simultaneously:
- Revoke the affected badge via the PACS API
- Isolate the compromised network segment via the firewall API
- Lock the OT workstation via the endpoint management platform
- Page the on-call security architect with full incident context
- Open an incident record in the ticketing system with pre-populated evidence
- Trigger the relevant compliance notification workflow
All of these happen within 3 seconds of the Resolution trigger. No sequential queue. No handoff delays. No waiting for one system to confirm before the next one acts.
RTO=0 Resilience
For critical infrastructure operators, one of D2R's most distinctive capabilities is what we call RTO=0 resilience — the ability to maintain security operations continuity even when the primary D2R node loses connectivity.
The Resolution layer runs on a distributed architecture with local edge nodes at each site. If the primary D2R instance loses connectivity with a site node, the edge node continues operating autonomously using the last-synced playbook set. Incidents are detected, correlated, and resolved locally. When connectivity is restored, the incident log syncs back to the central platform.
This matters enormously for offshore platforms, remote substations, and air-gapped defense installations — environments where connectivity is intermittent by design or requirement.
Closed-Loop Learning
Every Resolution outcome feeds back into the Intelligence layer's confidence model. When an automated response correctly contained an incident, the event pattern that triggered it is reinforced. When a human analyst overrides an automated response, the override reason is recorded and the playbook is flagged for review.
Over time, this closed-loop feedback makes D2R progressively more accurate in your specific environment. Clients who have been running D2R for 12+ months report false-positive rates below 4% — down from 8% at deployment and 50%+ in their pre-D2R SIEM environments.
What Resolution Looks Like End-to-End
Starting from initial detection: the Sense layer ingests a PACS anomaly at 14:32:07. The Intelligence KnowledgeGraph correlates it with a concurrent network event in 1.8 seconds. The Decision layer scores it at 0.94 confidence and triggers a Resolution playbook at 14:32:09. The Resolution layer executes 6 parallel containment actions at 14:32:12. The on-call architect receives a fully pre-populated incident brief at 14:32:12.
Total time from detection to containment: under 3 minutes. Previous MTTR in this environment: 42 minutes.
That 39-minute difference is not hypothetical. It's the gap between an incident that was contained and one that became a breach.
